9th at Dawn
Bonita Springs, Florida. February mornings in southwest Florida can be something special. The temperature is perfect, the air often still, and the sun rises at an angle that bathes everything in warm, golden light. On this morning, I positioned myself at the 9th hole just as the sun cleared the horizon.
The light just after sunrise has a quality that photographers call “sweet” — warm but not harsh, angled but not extreme, good for revealing texture and form.
What I love about this photograph is its sense of promise. The day is just beginning, the course is fresh, the light is right — everything suggests possibility. For golfers, this is the feeling of standing on the first tee, scorecard blank, anything achievable.
The 9th hole at this course is particularly photogenic, with water features that catch the light and landscaping that frames the view well. But it's the timing of this shot that makes it work — that narrow window just after sunrise when the light does its best work. I've returned to this spot many times since, hoping to recapture this moment.
Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. Recommended in ultra gloss finish to enhance the warm golden tones and create depth in the early morning light.
