Algonquin Park, Ontario. Dawn over a misty pond is one of Algonquin's signature views, and this very early morning delivered it perfectly.
Mist was forming over the pond, thin white layers hovering over the water, catching the first hint of colour from the sky. As the light grew stronger, the mist thickened and thinned in waves, creating constantly shifting patterns.
The challenge with dawn photography is that the best light often lasts only minutes. You have to be in position, focused, and ready when the moment arrives, because it won't wait. On this morning, the peak came when the rising sun hit the mist, turning it from grey to gold while the pond remained in cooler shadow. The contrast between warm and cool created the drama.
