This image looks out from the remnants of the old railroad bridge, now a walkable platform that offers views unavailable from beach level. The elevation provides perspective on the surrounding waters, the keys visible in the distance, the sky stretching to meet the sea at an indistinct horizon.
The Florida Keys are technically a chain of coral islands, the exposed portions of an ancient reef. The shallow waters around them glow with that characteristic turquoise, particularly on calm days when there's no wave action to stir up sediment. This was one of those calm days.
I composed to emphasize the expanse — the panoramic width of the view, the way sky and water mirror each other in color and mood. Standing on that old bridge, you feel suspended between elements, the solid world of land reduced to distant suggestions while water and sky dominate.
