Algonquin Park, Ontario. This image captures Algonquin in that transitional moment when summer isn't quite finished but fall is clearly on its way.
I was positioned overlooking a series of small lakes, watching the morning unfold. Below me, mist was rising from the water, drifting through the forest. The sky overhead was clear blue, but down in the valleys, the cool air was still creating those ephemeral clouds that make early morning in Algonquin so photogenic.
The forest was just putting on its fall colours. Pockets of orange and yellow punctuated the green canopy, early adopters signaling what was coming for the rest of the forest. Within a few weeks, this same view would be ablaze with colour. But this in-between moment has its own appeal — the first hints of transformation, the sense of watching something begin.
