Segovia, Spain. Taken on the road to Segovia, this image captures a view of the Spanish countryside and a church placed to serve the local agricultural community. The cities attract tourists, but the soul of the country lives in places like this: small churches serving communities that have gathered in the same spot for generations, fields planted and harvested beyond counting. The church was not famous; it appeared on no tourist maps. Yet it told a story of faith and community and continuity that the great cathedrals, for all their splendor, can’t match.
This is why I travel with a camera: not for the monuments, but for the moments when a random turn reveals something true about a place and its people.
