Horseshoe Bend
Horseshoe Bend, Arizona. An easy hike leads to the edge of Horseshoe Bend, overlooking the Colorado River hundreds of feet below. The view is both dizzying and breathtaking.
The river, green with sediment, has carved a channel deep through the red rock, and at this particular point it swings in an almost 360-degree turn around a massive fin of stone. The shape is so regular it seems designed, but it's pure geology — the river following the path of least resistance as it encountered particularly hard rock in its path.
This spot has become hugely popular, to the point where fences and platforms have been installed to protect both visitors and the fragile desert environment. A necessary compromise between access and preservation.
Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. Ultra gloss finish captures the depth of the canyon and the glow of the sandstone.
