Let's Ski!
Algonquin Park, Ontario. A single pair of skis blaze a trail through the first real snowfall this winter in Algonquin Park.
The first real snowfall of winter transforms Algonquin into something quieter than its summer self. This image captures that moment of transformation.
The cross-country ski trails in the park were freshly covered, and someone had blazed through, leaving a single pair of tracks cutting through the untouched snow. Those tracks became my subject.
A trail through fresh snow speaks to possibility — an invitation, a record of someone's passage, a suggestion of where you might go next. The tracks drew a line through the frame, leading the eye from foreground to the snow-laden trees in the distance. The forest on either side stood heavy with white, branches bowed under their new weight.
Algonquin in winter requires more planning than summer visits. Shorter days, colder temperatures, and fewer services mean you need to be self-sufficient. But the reward is a park that feels empty.
Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. Matte finish recommended to preserve the soft quality of winter light and the texture of fresh snow. For those who know that the best trails are the ones you make yourself.
