Naples, Florida. Lowdermilk Beach has become one of my regular sunset destinations in Naples. On this evening, the conditions aligned to create one of those sunsets that makes you grateful to be alive.
The colors that evening — bands of gold, tangerine, and rose layered across the sky like a watercolor wash. The Gulf waters picked up these hues and reflected them back, creating that quality where you can't quite tell where sky ends and sea begins. A few wispy clouds added texture and caught the last rays of light, turning from white to pink to purple as the minutes passed.
Sunset photography is deceptively challenging. The light changes rapidly, and you must constantly adjust your settings while also watching your composition. But when everything comes together — when the clouds cooperate and the colors explode and you capture that one frame that preserves the feeling of being there — it makes every failed attempt worthwhile. This is one of those images.
