Naples Pier, Sunset
Naples, Florida. The historic Naples Pier stretches into the Gulf of Mexico. This gathering place, built in 1888, has survived hurricanes and fires. The pier bathes in the glow of a descending sun.
This is a different angle on the famous pier, photographed on an evening when the light was particularly dramatic and just a few short months before Hurricane Ian did such damage to the pier. The structure stretches into the Gulf, its pilings creating a rhythm that leads the eye toward the sunset. The water reflects the sky's colors, doubling the display.
The pier has been a gathering place since 1888, predating much of Naples itself. It's where proposals happen, where photographers set up at golden hour, where fishermen cast lines and visitors watch dolphins. Its function was simple — a platform over water — but its role in community life was vital and will be again when a new pier is constructed.
I've photographed this pier many times, in many conditions. The sunset never repeats; each evening offers its own combination of clouds and colors and angles.
Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. Ultra gloss finish brings out the sunset glow and the pier's architectural detail. Naples photography that celebrates a community landmark.
