Oxtongue River Blue Dawn
Muskoka, Ontario. Mother nature more than cooperated and created some beautiful mist on this cold spring morning along the Oxtongue River.
Cold air over warmer water creates one of nature's most striking phenomena — rising mist — and the river was putting on a show. The mist rose from the water's surface in wisps and columns, illuminated by the soft blue light of pre-dawn. The world had not yet taken on colour; everything existed in shades of blue and grey, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a dream than reality.
The cool colour temperature of the blue hour was exactly what I wanted — fighting it with white balance correction would have destroyed the mood. I let the scene be what it was, cold and blue and mysterious.
Mother nature created this scene, and I was merely fortunate enough to be there to document it. There is humility in landscape photography, a recognition that we are not creating beauty but simply witnessing it. Moments like these cannot be manufactured.
Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. Matte finish recommended to preserve the soft quality of the morning mist and the cool blue tones of dawn.
