Reeds in the Blue

from $275.00

Algonquin Park, Ontario. Steel grey-blue reeds punctuate an impossibly calm pond, blurring the line between water and ice, captured shortly after a dawn downpour in late October.

The colour was what caught me. Everything had shifted into a blue-grey palette: the water, the sky, the reeds, even the far tree line. Monochromatic without being black and white, cold without being harsh. The reeds punctuated the scene like vertical brushstrokes, their reflections creating a mirror image that blurred the boundary between water and air.

I took several frames, varying the composition slightly, but this one worked best because of how the reeds were distributed — not too regular, not too random, just scattered enough to feel natural while still creating rhythm. The stillness wouldn't last; soon the sun broke through and a slight breeze disturbed the surface. But for that brief window, the pond was as calm as I've ever seen it.

Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. The matte finish suits the muted colour palette, keeping the cool tones soft rather than harsh. Minimalist Algonquin Park wall art for spaces that need calm rather than drama.
