Haliburton, Ontario. A lone duck on a cold and misty summer morning. The duck appeared silently, materializing from the mist. I had been photographing the fog-shrouded lake, drawn by the monochromatic palette and the stillness of the water. Then movement — ripples expanding outward from the lone duck paddling through silver.
What I love about this image is the tension between movement and stillness. The water was so calm that the duck's passage created ripples that seemed to stretch on forever. The mist softened everything, muting colours and eliminating hard edges, creating an almost painterly quality.
Watching a lone duck on a misty morning carries its own peace. No urgency, no drama — just purpose as it paddles through the water. This image captures that. Sometimes the simplest photographs are also the best.
