Muskoka, Ontario. Arrowhead Provincial Park holds a special place in my heart. On this morning, I found myself standing at the edge of a small pond, watching as a smaller island sat cradled in the still water under a cloud-covered sky.
The scene was a study in curves. The pond wrapped around the island, and the clouds above created a textured ceiling that reflected in the water's surface. No drama here, no spectacular colour or violent weather — just a peaceful moment of balance between water and sky.
I composed the shot to emphasize the curving shoreline, using it as a leading line toward the small island. The diffused light from the overcast sky was ideal, eliminating harsh shadows and allowing the green tones of the conifers to glow softly against the grey sky.
What I love about this image is its quietude. It does not demand attention with bright colours. Instead it asks the viewer to slow down, to breathe, to find peace in simplicity.
