Scripps Pier Reflection
La Jolla, California. Captured from beneath Scripps Pier, the symmetry of its structure is mirrored in the blue sky and ocean.
I wanted to find an angle that felt fresh, a perspective that revealed something new about this iconic structure. I found it by getting low, positioning myself directly beneath the pier where the massive pilings created a corridor of symmetry stretching toward the horizon.
What fascinates me about this composition is how it transforms a familiar landmark into something almost abstract. The repeated verticals of the pilings, multiplied in the water below, create a rhythm that draws the eye toward the bright opening at the end of the pier. The blues of sky and ocean merge seamlessly with their reflected counterparts, turning the image into a study of symmetry and light.
Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. Ultra gloss finish recommended to enhance the symmetry and oceanic blues. Where science meets the sea.
