Skerwink Trail

from $275.00

St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Travel + Leisure Magazine named Skerwink Trail one of the top 35 walks in North America and Europe in its August 2003 World Best Awards issue. After hiking it, I understood why.

The 5.3-kilometre loop follows the coastline near Port Rexton, offering views that change around every bend. Sea stacks rise from the waves. Cliffs drop to churning water. On a clear day, you might spot whales, icebergs, or eagles — a concentrated dose of Newfoundland's coastline, with views of Port Rexton and Trinity.

I was skeptical of the magazine ranking before hiking. But Skerwink delivers. The trail is well-maintained but doesn't feel manicured. The viewpoints are spectacular but don't feel staged. Wild coastline made accessible without being tamed.

This image captures one of the vistas along the trail — rugged coastline in the background, cliffs layered in geological history, the Atlantic attempting to destroy those cliffs.

Limited edition Chromaluxe metal print. Ultra gloss finish emphasizes the coastal scenery. Newfoundland photography for those who believe the best views come from trails.
