Haliburton Highlands, Ontario. This sunrise lasted a mere few minutes and then the colours disappeared. I was fortunate to be there to experience it. The colours shifted and evolved second by second.
This image represents everything I love about landscape photography and everything that frustrates me about it. You can plan, scout, prepare, and still miss the moment. Or you can be in the right place at the right time, already set up and ready. There's no formula, no guarantee — only persistence, patience, and a willingness to fail more often than you succeed.
The fleeting nature of this sunrise only increases its value to me. We treasure what we might easily have missed. A few minutes earlier, a few minutes later, and this image wouldn't exist. But on this particular morning, I was there, I was ready, and the sky gave everything.
