As a photographer and golfer, I'm fascinated by how light reveals the true character of a golf course. In the middle of the day, courses can appear relatively flat. But catch them in late afternoon light, when shadows stretch long and low angle sun rakes across the terrain, and suddenly you see everything — every subtle undulation, every contour, every bunker's true depth.
The bunkers in this image are particularly striking. In flat light, they appear as simple sand-filled depressions. But in this late afternoon illumination, they become sculptural elements, their depth revealed by the shadows pooling within them. The rolling fairway, invisible at midday, suddenly shows its true character.
