The pagoda's red tiers rise above fresh spring foliage, and Mount Fuji stands beyond it. Two of Japan's most recognized forms share one frame, and without the blossoms, they carry the scene on their own.
The pagoda holds the right of the frame. Its layered vermilion roofs lead the eye up to the spire. To the left, Mount Fuji rises, its snow-capped summit softened by haze and framed by drifting cloud. The town sits small in the middle distance, and green hillside surrounds all of it. Mountain against structure, distance against detail — the contrasts do the work.
