Zion National Park, Utah. Special views await those who hike to the top of Angels Landing. These views reward those who complete the challenging climb.
Angels Landing is not for everyone. The final approach follows a narrow ridge with thousand-foot drops on both sides, chains providing the only handholds. But for those who make it, the reward is a view across Zion Canyon that puts all its features in context — the Great White Throne, the Organ, the Watchman, all visible from this central vantage.
I made this image from the summit, looking across to formations on the opposite wall. The elevation provides perspective usually reserved for birds, a sense of floating above the landscape rather than being contained within it.
The hike is memorable — starting from the canyon floor, climbing through switchbacks, emerging onto Scout Lookout, then making the decision whether to continue on the exposed final section.
